How does radio controlled time work?
The government broadcasts a low frequency radio signal from Colorado which contains time and date. The signal is regulated by the NIST's atomic clock--the most accurate timepiece in the world. These clocks receive this signal and synchronize themselves each night to ensure that the time displayed is always correct.
